Dig Deeper: Read Matthew 18:21-35
- What stands out to you from this passage of scripture? Give the Holy Spirit a moment to lead you to specific thoughts, words, or phrases. What insight, questions, or observations do you have? Write them down, and as a group try to answer them.
- What do you think was Jesus’ big idea in teaching this parable to Peter and His other disciples?
- How would Jesus’ audience have related to the characters that Jesus choose for His parable of the unforgiving servant?
- Every parable that Jesus tells has a hook that captures the audience to teach a point. What was the hook in this parable? Which character do you naturally find yourself relating with?
- What does it practically look like to forgive our brothers and sisters in Christ from the heart?
Make It Personal:
- What is something you have recently had to ask forgiveness for? How conscious are you when you sin against others and need to seek forgiveness?
- How does our cultures’ definition of forgiveness differ from how scripture describes forgiveness?
- On Sunday the point was made, “You can’t give what you don't have.” How do you think this applies to situations where we have a hard time forgiving others?
- Forgiveness is not about keeping score, but losing count. How good are you at this principle? Do you find you tend to keep score, or can you easily forgive and forget?
- Jesus’ forgiveness releases us from being both debtors and debt collectors. Which one is most impactful for you in the current season of your life?
- What are some stories of Biblical Forgiveness that have impacted and inspired you recently?
- What is one take away or action that you have gained from this week’s sermon, life group, or personal study?
